I'm finding it harder as the years go by to agree with any of NuLabour's policies, and also to see where they're going in general. I can't quite see what real relevance this will have, and nor can I see what good a jail term would do someone who has downloaded a couple of pieces of music. It's getting more dictatorial and draconian.

If, on the other hand, they began investigating and regulating a little in terms of the 'reasonable usage' type policies or coming up with other new suggestions for file sharing etc. Where does it stop, though - file sharing now, what about news in the future? Murdoch already wants to charge people for reading his news sites (would anyone really pay to read The Sun online? Hah!) and what's to stop him dragging Mandelson along for the ride.

If an ISP is concerned about the amount of large media files a user is downloading, and really it would have to be quite some amount to raise their interest, they can then take it up with that user to ascertain if it is paid for content. How is Mandelson's new plan going to help with that?

Not sure I see this ending well, and not sure in general I am liking how supposedly left-centre or slightly left of centre political parties are moving further to the right. Does everyone want to be the Tories?
